About the studio
I build the tools I wish existed for the work I know.
Backlot Studio is a one-person studio with an unusual vantage point: I work on film and TV sets, not just around them. That’s where most of this starts — a problem I hit on a real job, or watched someone else fight, that nothing off-the-shelf ever solved properly.
So I learned to build it. In software: LogiTrak came from chasing kit across a unit base, Reelbooks from the mess of production accounting, and Hush and IBD Tracker from health. In hardware: coded circuit boards and practical effects that live inside props and lighting — bespoke electronics, made to do exactly what the shot needs.
Everything is designed, built and shipped end to end — native iOS and full-stack web, plus custom PCBs and microcontroller builds with on-set support. Small studio, real products, made by someone who has to live with the problem too.
